Climate Change and Human Health

For decades scientists have researched infrastructure for tracking changes in aquatic biomass.

Researchers at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine are starting to do the same, but looking at it from the point of view of human health.

Some researchers are studying bacteria known as blue-green algae. This algae is harmful to humans and every summer beaches are being contaminated. This poses a threat to the health of many residents in Northern Ontario which can result in many water advisories being issued.

Researchers are looking for more ways to detect this bacteria, which they say is an increasing problem every year due to global warming.
