FedNor Could Become a Standalone Agency

Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is introducing a bill that would make FedNor a standalone agency.

Angus says most Canadians he talks to want a bright future for their children and a good job and he says making FedNor a standalone agency would help do just that. Angus says the continued cuts to FedNor under our current government has a negative impact on our region and says it’s important to restore the role of the FedNor Minister.

This move looks to put Northern Ontario on the same page as every other economic agency in the country by providing transparency and accountability around the cuts to funding, staffing and programming such as broadband.

Angus says FedNor needs to be a standalone agency because bettering the economy in Northern Ontario is not only good for our province, but also the entire country. He says protecting regional voices and strengthening investments that focus on small and medium sized businesses plays a crucial role in helping our economy.
