Senior Grocery Aid Program in Kapuskasing

The Transportation and Grocery Aid Program in Kapuskasing is looking to get more people involved in the community.

Volunteer Coordinator with the Aging Home Office in the Centre de Sante, Tannis Egan, says through this program seniors are picked up, brought to the grocery store and helped out with any shopping. She says they already have about 60 or 70 people that are registered and on any given day they have about 20 people use the service.

Egan says this program runs completely off of donations and the grocery aid program was officially launched over the summer. She says to try and get more people involved, from November 30th to December 21st anyone who registers or uses the grocery aid program will be entered in for a draw. Egan says they have one $100 and four $50 gift cards to Larabie’s Your Independent Grocer.

This service is meant for anyone over the age of 65, but Egan says depending on the situation sometimes exceptions are made. Seniors can make use of this service every Wednesday from 10:00am to 4:00pm and Egan says you can sign up either at the grocery store or by calling 705-371-3006.
