Update: Roadside Recycling in Kapuskasing

Starting in the New Year the Town of Kapuskasing will be picking up garbage and recycling at the side of the road.

General Manager of Public Works for the town, Eric Cote, says the new bins will be individually distributed to all of the houses at no cost. He says residents should pay attention to the way the town places the bins because that’s how they’ll need to be set up whenever the trucks come by to pick them up.

Cote says the new garbage and recycling containers  will be distributed to residents after Christmas. He says the bins will be dropped off on your regular scheduled garbage day and it’s important to remember the exact location they were placed in. Cote says if the bins are placed in the wrong spot or the garbage and recycling isn’t sorted, residents will be given reminders not to do it again and if it continues to be a problem fines will be handed out. He says the changes are not something he’s expecting people to catch onto over night and that there is to be a month of education before and after everything comes into effect.

Only the garbage placed in these new bins will be accepted as bags at the curb will no longer be picked up. Clear plastic bags will have to be used for these new bins and one garbage and one recycling container will be collected every week. Cote says there won’t be any changes to the date your garbage is picked up and adds Moonbeam will also be following suit with these changes. He says the municipality is already using the new garbage bins, but are still waiting for the recycling ones to come in.

More information will be made available as it gets closer to the delivery date of the new bins.
