NOSM Receives New Funding

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine has received $5 million to research the effects of radiation on our health and the environment.  Bruce Power gave the school the money which will be allocated at $1 million a year.  Researchers will study how low doses of radiation affect people including First Nations and fish.  They will also look to see what affect radiation and diagnostic imaging have on the fetus.  Bruce Power spokesman Doctor Doug Boreham says contrary to popular belief, research shows low radiation exposure can be positive because it stimulates the body’s repair systems and makes organisms healthier.
