Update: Ottawa-Nipigon Project

Work on the Ottawa-Nipigon project is coming along very well and the General Manager of Public Works in Kapuskasing, Eric Cote says all the pipping should be installed by the end of the week.

A new water main, sanitary sewer systems and road work is being completed in the area.

Cote says right now they are playing it day by day and hoping the weather can hold out a bit longer. He adds the big issue they face is pooling of water. He says if there’s water sitting in one place they can’t do much because it won’t make for a good asphalt base. Cote says if it’s consistently dropping below minus four and wet outside, that’s when it starts to become a problem.

After the pipping is complete, Cote says they will be raising the road, grating it, and preparing everything for the winter months. He says in the Spring they will be installing the sidewalks and adding the finishing touches.

Cote says if the weather holds out, they are hoping to have the first coat of asphalt down this year.
