Community Meeting Discussed Increases Coming to Hydro Bills

Northern Ontario Wires has applied to increase electricity distribution fee’s. This will impact over 5,200 residential customers from Kapuskasing to Iroquois Falls as early as May 1st, 2017.

The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) met with members of the community yesterday to discuss these potential changes.

Northern Ontario Wires has applied to increase the cost of electricity distribution fees by $5.62, but the Registrar for the OEB, Kristi Sebalj says the exact amount is yet to be determined. She says the OEB reviews these applications and determines if the increase is necessary or not. Sebalj adds for the most part they don’t approve the full amount asked for.

She says one of the big things the utility company discussed at the meeting was upgrades to their website. Other things this increase would help cover includes replacing old infrastructure and cutting back tree lines.

Sebalj says the purpose of these meetings is to engage members of the public and answer any questions they may have. She says she was happy with the turnout at the meeting and glad to see people participating and asking questions.
