Liberals Support Motion to Increase Funding for Indigenous Children

The Liberal government has decided to back the NDP’s motion to put $155-million into the welfare of First Nations children.

The MP for Timmins-James Bay, Charlie Angus says this funding is important because First Nations children don’t receive the same support other kids get. Angus finds it hard to believe the government had to order parliament to take action.

He says the money would go into front line workers who are helping kids, but it will remain to be seen if the Liberals follow through with this promise. He says in our region we still have people falling through the cracks and this year alone they need to invest $155-million dollars.

The motion put forward calls on the Liberals to follow through with the orders made by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal in January to establish new funding and create a funding plan.
