Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and when they flourish so do our communities.
That’s what the MP for Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing told the House of Commons while talking about Northern Truss. Northern Truss won Company of the Year at the Northern Ontario Business Awards (NOBA’s) a few weeks ago and Hughes was praising them for their involvement in the community.
Hughes says award winning businesses benefit their communities in more than one way. She says businesses like this one that play active roles in the community, support schools, organizations and sports teams are essential in communities.
Owner of Northern Truss, Mathieu Bouchard says it’s the first time his company has been put up for an award at the NOBA’s and the first time since the 1990’s a company from Kapuskasing had the honour of taking one home.
Bouchard went on to say there’s not many companies in Moobeam that employ 15 people and adds they also take on two students every summer. Bouchard said it was nice to win the award, but he was grateful for the opportunity to be there and for all the connections he made.
