OPP Wants to Ensure Everyone has a Safe and Happy Halloween

Don’t be surprised if you see a few clowns out tonight, it’s the one night a year when it’s acceptable to dress up as one.

The OPP is providing some Halloween safety tips for trick-or-treaters who plan on going out tonight.

Staff Sergeant Baldassare Nuccio with the James Bay Detachment says it’s important kids cross the road at designated cross walks and to bring a flashlight if it’s going to be dark out. He adds to avoid wearing a mask that might restrict your vision and to not approach houses that aren’t decorated for the occasion.

Nuccio says kids should always wait until they get home to open any candy with their parents. The Staff Sergeant adds that sometimes police do receive reports of vandalism on Halloween, but is reminding the public that police will be out patrolling to make sure everyone is having a safe and happy Halloween.
