Kapuskasing Festival of Lights Set to Kick Off Next Month

The annual festival of lights will be returning to Kapuskasing next month. Thousands of colourful lights and decorations transform Riverside Park into a winter wonderland every year.

Special Events Co-Ordinator for the Town of Kapuskasing, Kelly Kraby says after the Santa Parade makes its way over to the park, that’s when the lighting ceremony will take place. She says they have around ten stations with electrical panels set up around the park and volunteers will be at each one so all the lights can be turned on at the same time.

Kraby says due to the vandalism that usually takes place every year, she’s thankful for the support of all the local sponsors. She says the Festival of Lights is something that residents looks forward to every year and she doesn’t see the tradition stopping any time soon.

The only changes to the festival this year is the fact the parade will be leaving from Knowles Building Centre. The parade will get started at 6:30pm on November 19th. Kraby says on top of the parade and lighting ceremony there will lots of fun events for everyone in the family.

She says people who show up will also have the opportunity to warm up by the massive bonfire down by where the lumberjack competitions usually take place and Tim Hortons will be there to give out free hot chocolate.

The park will be lit up from mid-November until the start of January and again for the Winter Carnival in February.
