Crossing Guards Service Could Stop as Early as Next Year in Kapuskasing

The Town of Kapuskasing is looking to reach an agreement with local school  boards to share the cost of crossing guards.

CAO, Yves Labelle says right now the town is paying the full cost which is over $50,000 a year. He says in other municipalities crossing guards are a shared cost between the town and schools and some municipalities don’t have them at all.

Labelle says they will give the school boards an ultimatum and if something isn’t worked out by June, there won’t be crossing guards in town next year.

The town has just started the process of reaching out to the local school boards. Labelle says more information will be made public when it becomes available.
