The MNRF is reminding hunters to be safe while having fun out in the bush this year.
With hunting season upon us, the ministry is proving the public with some safety tips. Conservation Officer with the MNRF in Kapuskasing, Dan Dufour says hunters should always wear orange, be sure someone knows where you plan on going and to bring a GPS in case you get lost.
Dufour also says hunters should never shoot unless they’re sure of their target and what’s beyond it. The MNRF say it’s illegal to carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle and keeping firearms at home can be dangerous. Dufour says firearm safety is everyone’s responsibility and storage restrictions are in place to help ensure they don’t end up in the wrong hands.
The MNRF will be working closely with local police units to ensure the safety of all hunters this season.
To report any illegal or unsafe hunting activity you can call the MNRF Tips line, the OPP or Crime Stoppers where you may be eligible for a cash reward.
