OPP Fall Seatbelt Safety Campaign

The OPP is in the middle of their fall seatbelt safety campaign.

Over the past five years almost 350 unbuckled drivers and passengers have been killed in the province. Inspector Michael Pilon with the James Bay Detachment says as a driver it’s your responsibility to ensure the safety of your passengers and that everyone buckles up.

Pilon says that not wearing your seatbelt, even in low speed collisions, drastically reduces your chances of survival. He says for the most part people in our area do wear their seatbelts, but police are reminding the public that buckling up not only saves lives, it’s also the law.

The OPP seatbelt safety campaign is on now until the end of the week. Northeastern police units hope to see all drivers and passengers safely bucked in rather than giving out tickets.
