ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON CN OIL SPILL IN GOGAMA

The MP for Nickel Belt says a round table discussion he held to deal with the CN oil spill in Gogama last year was productive.  A train derailment spilled about a million litres of oil into the Mattagami River last year.  MP Marc Serre understands why residents are worried since the spill could affect the drinking water and eating the fish.

But Serre has some good news on the status of the water.   He says according to provincial testing, which uses the same standard across the province, the water is safe to drink.   Serre says the fish is also safe to eat and future studies will be carried out to ensure the spill hasn’t had long term effects on the fish.  CN has also made a commitment to clean up the spill no matter how long it takes.
