HYDRO, HEALTHCARE, AND JOBS ON THE NDP’S RADAR FOR THIS TERM AT THE ONTARIO LEGISLATURE

The Ontario Legislature has officially opened for the term, and Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof says the NDP will be focusing on three key issues. He says Hydro will continue to be on top of mind for the party, despite Wynne’s promise to cut eight per cent from the bill. He says the NDP got the government to follow their lead on the HST, and they will continue to push so Hydro becomes affordable for families and business in the north.

The second key issue the party will focus on is healthcare. Vanthof says there are huge problems in healthcare, and northern Ontario has been experiencing cuts. So, he says they will keep pushing on that.

The third crucial issue for the New Democrats this term is jobs. Vanthof says in order for families to pay their bills and for the government to collect taxes so society can run, people need good jobs.

This comes as the Legislature officially opened on Monday with a throne speech from Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell. Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson is still out on medical leave, as he recovers from surgery.
