The Kapuskasing Special Olympics are getting ready to kick off this weekend.
Every Saturday at 11:30am there will be bowling at Northside Lanes, and Mondays at 3:30pm swimming competitions at the pool.
Community coordinator and organizer of the Special Olympics, Simone Knowles says although drop in sessions are welcome, athletes who compete in at least half of the games will get to take part in the regional championship in Timmins at the end of the season.
Knowles says in the past they’ve sent athletes to the provincial and national games and some have even come home with medals.
The Kapuskasing Special Olympics has tremendous community support from local businesses, the OPP and even Mayor Alan Spacek.
