CROWN IN MALL COLLAPSE TRIAL SAYS FORMER ENGINEER HAD DISREGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE

The Crown Attorney in the Algo Centre Mall collapse says the engineer who signed off on the Elliot Lake mall’s structural integrity showed a wanton and reckless disregard for people.  Robert Wood is charged in connection with the deaths of two Elliot Lake women who died in the June, 2012 cave-in.  The Crown has witnesses who will testify about the condition of the mall leading up to the collapse.

Former tenants and employees will talk about incidents of water leakage and corrosion points in the mall’s structure.  Some of the testimony will date back to mall’s early days after it opened in 1980.  The trial is expected to last five months.
