September is not only the time for back to school, but also to help raise money for cancer awareness through the annual Terry Fox Run.

The event will be held September 18th and is taking place in more than 220 communities across the province. Each year the event is held on the same day so people all across the country are walking at the same time.

This year the event in Kapuskasing will have a new organizer. Susan Renaud decided to take over the role because it’s all for a good cause. Renaud thinks the reason most people participate is because many families have been directly impacted by cancer.

To date over $700-million has been raised for cancer research. Stella Arezza, a Kapuskasing resident, has done her part and over the past 26 years raised over $50,000.

The event kicks off Sunday, September 18th at 11:00am and starts at the Kapuskasing Golf Club.
