Back to School Safety Reminder from the OPP

With students back in school, the OPP would like to remind the public to use extra caution on the roads. Ontario law requires motorists travelling in both directions to stop when approaching a bus with its upper lights flashing and to leave enough room for children to cross the road safely. This law applies to all highways, city streets and country roads.

While it’s important for drivers to pay attention to the road, students travelling to school need to pay attention too. Staff Sergeant Baldassare Nuccio with the James Bay Detachment says students need to pay attention especially when crossing at an intersection.

With these safety tips the OPP is hoping to make this school year the safest one yet.
