The Tragically Hip Raising Awareness About First Nation Problems

With over 11-million people watching and the Prime Minister in attendance, The Tragically Hip put First Nation problems in the spotlight.

Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says the Hip have been up to Attawapiskat and Fort Albany before so they know first-hand about some of the problems. Bisson says some of the major issues in these First Nation communities stem from the lack of infrastructure.

The MPP also says the Hip talking about First Nation problems will help, but he doesn’t know if it’s enough.

After their final show, lead singer Gord Downie and other members of the band decided to go on a fishing trip up the James Bay coast.

Bisson says Downie is likely not just in the north for the good fishing, but instead to draw attention to some of his comments.
