THE INTERNATIONAL MINE RESCUE COMPETITION KICKS OFF IN NORTHERN ONTARIO THIS WEEK

The International Mine Rescue Competition is being held in northern Ontario this week, the first time the event has come to Canada since its inception in 1998. Sudbury is hosting the competition this week, which has 28 teams from 13 countries competing in what is considered the Olympics in the mining industry.

The teams will be competing in simulated emergencies, like a fire, a high-angle rope rescue and an underground emergency. The events are scattered throughout the Nickel City and continue up to Friday.

The full schedule of events is on the IMRC 2016 website.
