A new phone scam is targeting residents around the area. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre is warning to not fall for the tactics used by scam artists. Fraudulent companies will use technical sounding ploys and try and convince you to fall for their scams.
The latest message claims you have won a large amount of money through the Virgin Islands Lottery. The text message asks you to send them an email to claim your prize. In the email they send back, they claim to be one of the “real” companies and not a hoax.
If you are unsure of any request reach out to someone you trust, local authorities or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
