MNRF Report 12 Active Fires in the Northeast

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry have reported 12 active fires burning in the Northeast region. Due to hot and dry conditions forest fire dangers are imminent. The most recent fire is North Bay 32 which is at 40 hectares and is located 12.5 kilometers west of Latchford. The MNRF say residents of the town could see smoke from the fire but there is no immediate risk to the town. Water bombers and three ground crews have been dispatched to disperse the fire.

Although there are active fires in the region the MNRF say currently no fires bans are in place. The ministry is encouraging anyone heading out into the forest to follow safe fire practices. They says to keep campfires small and to always drown the fire with water before leaving the campsite. The MNRF also advise to not use yard debris with your fire but instead to use composting methods.

Up to date information on forest fires can be found on the ministry’s interactive fire map.
