The new solar powered parking meters in Kapuskasing will drastically reduce the cost of maintenance. That is according to Deputy Fire Chief Pat Kennedy. Kennedy says the meters which were installed back in May replaced the old ones which ran off of batteries. He says initially there was a month grace period so residents could get used to the new change. The Deputy Fire Chief says the main reason these meters were introduced was to keep the flow of traffic in the Circle moving.
The solar panelled parking meters will pay themselves off within three years and afterwards it will be additional revenue for the town.
Two new meters will be added before the end of the month for more convenience.
