Town Taking Action Towards Compost Site

Residents believe the compost site in Kapuskasing has gotten out of control. The town says the site behind the water tower is designed for grass clippings, sticks and branches. They have been finding everything from couches to fridges and stoves left behind which costs money to clean up. CAO for the town of Kapuskasing Yves Labelle shares how they plan on resolving this issue.

Yves says a new recycling dome is also in the works which will help keep unwanted items out of the compost site. Right now the town is only picking up about five per cent of recyclables but with the new plan will take in over 30.

Members of the town council believe additional security and earlier closing times will help deter the public from dumping their garbage where it doesn’t belong.
