Cochrane is the only town in Northern Ontario to have made the list of Canada’s top 50 small towns. It was one of only seven small towns that were recognized in Ontario and is the only one in Northern Ontario to have made the list. Cochrane was also recently named one of the 15 cutest places in Ontario by NARTORONTO tourism.
They are the only community in Ontario with a free bike sharing program. Other attractions include having pop up pianos randomly left outside for the public to use or having the world’s only captive bear facility dedicated to polar bears. As the host community for the 2016 snowmobile summit Cochrane and district will be one of the most popular destinations for snowmobilers as well.
The Mayor of Cochrane, Peter Politis says it’s a testament to the region and how far they’ve come together. He also says that as northerners we’re lucky to experience the greatest way of life, in the best back yard on the planet every day.
