Potential Medical Marijuana Facility Coming to Kapuskasing

A new medical marijuana facility could soon be coming to Kapuskasing. The town has been in talks with CannAssist, a distributing company since back in 2014. Economic development officer for the town of Kapuskasing Andre Robichaud believes this will have a significant impact on the local economy. Robichaud says for a community the size of Kapuskasing this could create up to 40 new jobs.

CannAssist has proposed a 29,000 square foot facility at the Kapuskasing Airport where medical marijuana would be processed and prepared for sale.  The proposed medical marijuana production facility would have security built close to the same standards as a bank or pharmacy.

For other medical marijuana producers it has taken anywhere from two to three years to get government approval. Since there’s such a small window for construction in Northern Ontario, Robichaud is hopeful they are able to get started this year.

This would be the second medical marijuana facility proposed for Northern Ontario.
