OPP is Advising to Beware of Service Scams

OPP is advising the public to be cautious of service scams. Last year almost 200 victims were targeted that totalled losses of about $150,000. About 95 percent of the crimes go unreported and last year the Canadian Anti-Fraud Department received over 400 complaints. Scammers will typically ask for personal information such as social insurance numbers, date of birth, mother’s maiden name and credit card information. If you know someone who has been a victim of a service scam contact local authorities or file a complaint directly to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
