Timmins Doing its Part for Passenger Rail Restoration

Timmins is doing what it can help to help bring back a passenger rail service in northern Ontario.

City council has signed off on a motion to lobby the upper levels of government to reinstate the Algoma Central Railway.

Mayor Steve Black says they’ll sign motions like this when they don’t agree with decisions made by the government, like cutting funding to the rail service.

Black says this issue is an important one in particular, because the northeast has seen enough cuts to transportation.

The Algoma Central Railway ran between the Soo and Hearst, providing the only point of access to many hunting camps along the way.
