Potential Special Olympic Athletes Return Home with Medals, More to Compete in Timmins

Timmins is hosting track and field events this weekend and two potential Special Olympics athletes from Kapuskasing will be competing.

Community Coordinator for the Special Olympics in the area, Simone Knowles says bowling and swimmer competitors returned from Guelph provincial qualifiers, all with medals last month.

With three medals in bowling and four in swimming, Special Olympics organizers are optimistic about the future.

Knowles says none of it would be possible without the community’s never-ending support of the athletes.

This weekend both Stella Arezza and Jenna Knowles will be competing in the Timmins meet.

The athletes have received a great deal of support from the OPP, the town’s mayor and the many volunteers who donate their time to the events.
