North East LHIN Throws Support Behind HSN PET Scanner

North eastern Ontario is now one step closer to having a PET scanner installed closer to home.

It comes as the Local Health Integration Network has announced its support of a pre-capital submission for the equipment.

The province has already agreed to cover the operation costs for the equipment if HSN is able to raise enough money for the purchase.

The scanner will need roughly 3,800 feet of space for operations.

The closest PET scanner to north eastern Ontario is located in Ottawa.

If Sudbury gets one, it means travel time for residents in the region will be cut by more than half.

It’s now up to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to move on the request.
