Energy Critic Concerned for Northern Economic Effects of Climate Change Action Plan

Critics of the provincial climate change action plan are speaking out about the disproportionate burdens northern Ontario.

The New Democrat Energy Critic, Peter Tabuns, says the climate change action will cost northerners more of their income than other Ontarians, and will need extra help.

But, he says when you look at the percentage of total spending, there is very little support.

However, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Glen Murray, says there are potential savings of up to 13-hundred dollars per home in the north.

That is through the different types of programs available.

He says the government is putting more money into those programs, because they recognize northerners don’’t have the same choices as those living in southern Ontario.
