Bisson: Climate Action Plan a Step in the Right Direction, but with few Considerations for the North

Ontario’s Climate Action Plan looks to introduce government subsidies for switching to greener options car-wise, but it’s not a move which takes the north into account.

That’s the message from Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson.

Bisson says it’s important the province makes strides to become greener, but the current plan doesn’t benefit northern Ontario.

Electric cars are far less viable in the north due to the sparse communities within it.

It’s not all bad however, as there will be incentives for the replacement of older wood-stoves to more efficient ones for rural residents among other, smaller changes.

Bisson says since many of the subsidies and incentives aren’t viable in the north, residents could end up being the victim of rising gas and hydro prices, without getting anything in return.
