Goldcorp Recognized for Anti-Smoking Program

A new anti-smoking initiative at the Porcupine Gold Mine is winning Goldcorp an award.

The company received the Heather Crowe Award, given out by the Ontario government.

Goldcorp enacted their Tobacco-Free Policy this week, taking a number of steps to help their employees go smoke free.

Ontario’s Associate Health Minister Dipika Damerla says the province is also announcing new measures to help people quit smoking, which includes online resources.

Smoking related illnesses cost the provincial healthcare system over two billion dollars a year, which works out to be about 160 dollars per person.
