Province Making Effort to Improve Mining Safety

The province is taking steps to making the mining field a safer one for anyone who works underground.

A new video has been released to raise awareness about how workers are affected by respirable hazards found underground.

The seven minute video is a joint effort between the Ontario Mining Health and Safety Association, Workplace Safety North, and NORCAT.

Sixteen workers died from occupational disease in Ontario in 2015. NORCAT’s Director of Training and Development, Jason Bubba, says the video is there to help educate workers about the risks associated with respirable hazards.

The 2015 Mining Health, Safety, and Prevention Review identified occupational disease as one of the top five hazards in underground mining.
