This week marks the launch of a national road safety campaign and the northern OPP is playing a big role over its course.

Staff Sergeant Baldassare Nuccio from the James Bay detachment says a Special Program Coordinator is being assigned this week.

While the assignment is indefinite, the OPP is taking the opportunity to a select an officer for it this week.

Nuccio says the coordinator will have a specific mandate to improve safety, enforcement and education for ATVers, boaters and snowmobilers.

The OPP says it will be cracking down on distracted and impaired driving this week.
