OPP Staying on top of Cyber-Bullying

The OPP is taking the initiative in tackling the growing issue of cyber-bullying.

Staff Sergeant Baldassare Nuccio with the James Bay OPP says cyber-bullying refers to any form of harassment, making threats or making false accusations.

Nuccio says new legislation is being introduced as cyber-bullying can sometimes be very public, especially on social media.

He says the mental health effects of such actions is something law enforcement has to take into account as well.

Charges such as uttering threats, harassment, voyeurism and extortion are among some of the more serious cases police have to deal with.

He says this is why the OPP has been working with schools in the area, hosting talks while educating students, faculty and parents on the subject.
