Fedeli Pushing for ‘Texting Zones’ on Ontario Highways

A Northern Ontario MPP is trying to make Ontario highways safer.

Nipissing representative Vic Fedeli is introducing a Bill which will see the creation of texting zones on highways.

That means it’s a safe area for drivers to park, and use their phone.

But, Fedeli says his Bill expands to more than just roads.

It also pushes for designated texting zones in parking lots, bus stations, and rest stops.

He says it also requires signs to be posted at, or approaching, the texting zone.

This concept is already in place in New York State. Studies have show that those who text and drive are four times more likely to get in a crash as opposed to those who keep their eyes on the road.
