MNRF Issues Warning for Wildlife Wandering onto Roads

Keep your eyes on the road and on the shoulders, that’s the message the MNRF is conveying this time of year.

In the springtime wildlife like moose, bears, elk and deer are more active and looking for food, which could lead them onto northern roads.

The MNRF says it’s no coincidence where wildlife signs are posted as those are areas where animals are known to congregate in.

If you do come across any wildlife on a highway, take it slow, honk your horn in short bursts and blink your headlights.

At one-point last year the OPP reported around half of all crashes on northern highways involved moose.
