Special Olympics Swim Meet Sees Big Support from Community

Twenty-one competitors took to the water at the Donat Brosseau Pool in Kapuskasing for the Special Olympics Ontario Invitational Swim Meet.

Next month provincial qualifiers will be held in Guelph.

Organizer for the meet, Simone Knowles says we have some local representation heading to that meet.

Knowles says thanks to the experienced volunteers and support from the community the event couldn’t have gone better.

Families, friends, members of the community, volunteers, the town’s mayor and even the OPP were in attendance to show support for the athletes.

Constable Wade Torok from the OPP says the admiration is a two-way street.

He says officers may serve as an inspiration for athletes and officers in turn, come out and show their support for the competitors.
