OPP Sharing Information on How to Protect Yourself from Fraud

The OPP is spreading the word yet again to help northern residents protect themselves from online and telephone scams.

Police say never give any information out over the phone or let anyone access your personal devices like computers or cell phones.

It says in the last year 422 complaints were made with over $150,000 in losses for 200 victims as a result of fraud.

Police say those numbers are with 95 per cent of those crimes going un-reported.

All it takes is some banking information or a Social Security Number for someone to steal your identity.

If you do receive a fraudulent phone call or believe you’ve been the victim of online fraud, you’re asked to call police immediately.
