Council to Discuss Decision to Support PET Scanner Purchase at Next Meeting

Kapuskasing council has decided it will hold off on a recommendation to support HSN in its purchase of a PET scanner.

Council will take a closer look at the financial commitment it can make in the next meeting, after the budget meeting set for next Monday.

The province has offered to pay the $1.6 million a year in operating costs for the scanner once enough funds have been raised to purchase it in Sudbury.

The PET scanner would be an asset in the north in terms of diagnosis and treatment for cancer patients.

The subject sparked a discussion on the current healthcare needs of Kapuskasing, which may be added as an official topic in the next council meeting.
