Northern MPP Says It’s Time the Province had a Francophone University

The province is facing growing pressure to create a dedicated Francophone University.

The MPP for Nickel Belt, France Gelinas says Ontario already has numerous French secondary and elementary schools along with two Francophone colleges.

She says it’s now time to create a board of governors that would determine the make-up of such a school.

Gelinas believes a Francophone university can be modelled after College Boreal.

Boreal has numerous satellite offices scattered across Ontario in addition to Sudbury housing the main campus and administration.

Many communities across northern Ontario are predominantly Francophone, including those in the surrounding area.

This comes as students held a rally at Queen’s Park last week in favour of a Francophone university.
