PET Scanner Fundraising Gaining Steam

The drive to raise money for a PET scanner for Northeastern Ontario is approaching the half way mark.

About five million dollars is needed to buy the scanner and so far communities in the Northeast have raised two million bucks.

Once all the money is in place the Ministry of Health will pay the 1.6 million dollars to install the cancer-detection equipment.

The idea behind bringing in the scanner is to cut travel time for northern residents to southern city centres.

Travelling long distances can take a toll on patients, not including whatever treatment they seek.

Health Sciences North in Sudbury would house the scanner which would be accessible to all residents in the Northeast.
