A woman whose father worked at one of the Elliot Lake uranium mines has undertaken an enormous task.
Janice Martell is looking for miners who had to inhale aluminum dust before heading underground in Northern Ontario mines.
The practise was wide-spread and employers thought coating the lungs with aluminum would protect the miners from diseases like silicosis.
The practise was stopped when it was learned aluminum dust created other health problems.

So far, Martell has a list of 131 miners who inhaled the dust.
In May, Martell and the Steelworkers union will hold a clinic in Timmins to carry out a detailed health review on miners.
Tonight, one of the segments of the CBC’s Fifth Estate will focus on this issue.
