Speeding in Wintry Conditions a Concern for OPP

Both the OPP and the Timmins Police say they have been cracking down on speeding during the winter.

Police say speed limits are in place for favourable driving conditions and urge drivers to adjust their speed for the weather.

Timmins Police says they’ve seen speeding in increasingly snowy conditions.

Police say in the area of Highway 101 alone, they handed out eight charges in two days for speeding.

Conditions can change quickly in the area of Highways 655 and 11 and drivers should always prepare for the worst.

The OPP says to make sure you clear all snow off your vehicle so you can see all around it.

It’s also to clear license plates of snow as it can lead to being pulled over.

A blizzard kit containing blankets, candles, non-perishable food and a first aid kit is a great idea for driving in the north.
