Lack of OPP Helicopter Support Could Affect any Search or Rescue Operations in the North

As Sudbury city council takes its fight to restore OPP helicopter service in the north, residents are giving their MPP a failing grade on the issue.

The Sudbury Star polled readers online and found that 91 percent say Liberal Glenn Thibeault has fallen short on the issue.

The poll had 308 respondents.

Thibeault wants the chopper back north but is waiting to see if the OPP consolidate their helicopter search and rescue in Orillia.

That’s where the Sudbury chopper was relocated to last year.

Opponents say with the chopper now in the south, it will take longer for it to reach northerners in trouble.
