Northern MPP Raising Questions Over Liberal Appointments in LHINs

A northern Ontario New Democrat is raising questions over leadership in the Local Health Integration Networks in the region.

The MPP of Nickelbelt, France Gelinas says board members from the LHIN should be elected instead of appointed by the provincial Liberals.

Gelinas says as appointees, the directors are very friendly towards the Liberals.

Gelinas claims this means when issues come up, the board will usually come to the rescue of the Ministry of Health and government instead of putting public health first.

She believes an elected board can change this by making the directors more transparent and accountable.
