PET Scanner in Sudbury Will Cut Southern Commuting for Patients

For the past five years, a steering committee in Sudbury has been raising money for a PET scanner.

In that time, it’s raised 800-thousand dollars for the three million dollar piece of equipment.

However, that drive could speed up after the province announced annual operating funds for the scanner once the committee raises the full amount.

The province says it will commit 1.6 million dollars a year for the scanner, which helps detect and treat different cancers.

Right now, north eastern Ontario residents must travel to Toronto to get PET scans.
